Anatomy of a holiday card

Happy holidays to you! Hopefully you've received our holiday card for 2007. Here's a look at how we arrived at the end result.

First, you have to have a backdrop. Now seems like a good time to put up the Christmas tree.

Next, it's time to place the flash.

"So, is that OK?"

Then, it's time to find the right place to sit.

Practice with our "stunt double" Star Ledger. Don't want to take the Boston Globe out until just the right minute.

OK, here's our first try. This actually might work. Matt, where's your hat? And hey wait, there's a front page AND a sports page that we can use.

So we'll try this with two sections.

Any minute now.

Almost there. Just a little bit lower.

Thanksgiving 2007

Thanks again to Drew and Heidi for having Thanksgiving at their house. And to all of the cooks. Here's one of the cooks taking a break. That's Drew chillin' with Sam.

Each of us drew our own hand turkey on the refrigerator, including Sam. The two Indians on the bottom? That the cats, Spot and Spike.

And to those who wondered, Matt's pecan pie came out awesome. He's going to tweak the recipe a little bit, but he was very pleased with the results.

And then there's the food coma at the end of the day. Looks like someone had too much turkey!

Leave it to Sam to be the best dressed for Thanksgiving. Here's a little preview of our holiday. Still full from all the food we ate (thanks to the cooks!). More to follow tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving to our readers! Enjoy your turkey, your stuffing and trimmings, your parades. your football, your pies. Most importantly, enjoy your time with your family and friends.

Pies!

Here's a little preview for tomorrow. Matt and I spent the late afternoon and early evening making a couple pies and other assorted baked goodies. I made the brownies and the pumpkin pie. Matt made the M&Ms cookies and the pecan pie. Oh the pecan pie. We can't wait to try it. Matt has modified the recipe slightly by soaking the pecans in a little borboun and adding 2/3 cup of melted chocolate. We'll let you know the results.

Happy Birthday America!

Happy Fourth of July! Yes, 7/7/07 is coming quickly, but we took a little time to celebrate July 4th. It might be raining out, but we busted out the sparklers for some patriotic fun! Off to watch some real fireworks on the TV!

Happy Easter!

The good news is that, for the second year, Matt and I took in a Devils game on Easter (one more year and it will become a tradition). The bad news is that the Devils lost. The Devils actually were down 2-0 in the third period. They scored with about 5 minutes left in the game to make it 2-1 and then tied it up with 0.8 seconds left. That's why you never leave a game early! But the Devils lost the shootout and lost the game. Here's hoping things go better in the playoffs.

This may very well have been the last regular season game at the Continental Airlines Arena. If all goes as planned, the Devils will be playing in Newark in October. That works out well for us

because the games will be only a short train ride away!

A quick note about the photo -- Matt is quite proud of it. This actually is a self-portrait taken with his D40x. You can't even see his arm! The two guys behind us offered to take a picture but admitted that they couldn't have done as good a job.
